Prologue

I created this blog with the intent of documenting my journey through the making of a classical acoustic guitar.  I live in Halifax, Nova Scotia, located on the eastern coast of Canada.  I am building my guitar under the mentor of a guitar maker by the name of Ned Milburn, who lives in Nova Scotia, in his workshop, with materials I've purchased through him.  For more information on Ned, his work, and his services, visit his website-  handcraftedguitars.ca

I met Ned sometime over the past year, while working a concert setup with I.A.T.S.E.  This is where I learned that he built classical guitars.  One day, I contacted Ned, asking if he would be interested in the prospect of having me build my own classical guitar, in his shop, and under his instruction.  He seemed very keen on the idea, which excited me.  I knew this would be a pricey project, but sometimes there are things you want to do so much that the price is not an issue, to you- you will simply make it happen.  This was one of those things.
A couple months passed, before I contacted Ned about the details of this project.  I arranged a meeting with Ned, and we discussed prices, a timeline, and other logistics of this endeavor.  The wheels were rolling!  I toured Ned’s workshop, located in Dartmouth, NS, and grew excited with anticipation.  I saw his current projects, his tools, his compilation of woods, and heard him play a piece on the first guitar he built, and he discussed his methods and theories involved in the building process with me.  I learned a good bit, just in our first meeting on the subject.  I had money saved up for a down payment, and was ready to begin the project- we arranged a day to start, and I left, excited for things to come.
